With an asymmetric highlight design, placement is part of the look. As a contact lens rotates, its highlight can shift too, changing how the pattern appears.

What Does “Weighted” Actually Mean?
It’s about helping the lens find its orientation.
Weighted lens designs use differences in thickness and weight distribution to help maintain a particular position on the eye. The way the lens interacts with your eyelids during blinking also helps it maintain or recover its orientation.
For GlowyLock™, the goal is a more consistently positioned highlight. Some movement can still happen, and the result depends on how the lens fits your eyes. “Lock” describes the design’s intention; it doesn’t mean the lens stays completely motionless.
Are Weighted Contacts the Same as Toric Lenses?
If you’re familiar with contacts for astigmatism, you may recognize the idea of a weighted design. Both types of lenses can use stabilization to help maintain their orientation.
But toric lenses have another essential feature: optical correction for astigmatism.
Think of a toric lens as two parts working together:
- Optical correction: Different focusing powers in different directions compensate for curvature differences in the cornea or the eye’s natural lens, helping light focus on the retina.
- Stabilization: Weighting or another stabilization method helps keep that correction aligned.
The key is the optical correction—not simply using a weighted design to keep the lens facing the right way.
For GlowyLock™, the weighted design helps maintain the orientation of the highlight pattern. Sharing a stabilization principle doesn’t mean sharing the same vision correction: a weighted design alone cannot correct astigmatism or replace a prescribed toric lens.
Can I Wear GlowyLock™ if I Have Mild Astigmatism?
Some people with less than 0.75 diopters of astigmatism may be prescribed non-toric lenses after a professional fitting. That doesn’t mean the weighted design corrects their astigmatism.
The number alone isn’t enough to decide. Your eye care professional will consider your vision, daily needs and the fit of the specific lens. Research has found that toric lenses can offer better visual acuity than spherical lenses even at 0.75 diopters of astigmatism.
